Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, is a gripping novel that explores the dark side of human nature. Set on a deserted island, a group of boys are stranded after a plane crash, with no adults to guide them. As they attempt to govern themselves, their initial attempts at creating order soon dissolve into chaos. The boys’ personalities and instincts clash, leading to power struggles, violence, and the emergence of savagery. Golding’s powerful narrative examines themes of civilisation versus barbarism, the loss of innocence, and the inherent evil within mankind. As the boys descend into madness, Lord of the Flies serves as a haunting allegory about the fragility of society and the darkness lurking beneath the surface of human behaviour. This thought-provoking story raises timeless questions about power, morality, and the nature of humanity.
